Performance
Ford focuses on power with a single-engine option for the Expedition MAX. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine pushes a peak of 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. If you opt for rear-wheel drive, the fuel economy will achieve an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Drivers who select the four-wheel drive should expect about one mpg less in both scenarios. You also get a 27.8-gallon fuel tank for a top driving range of over 600 miles.
Buying the Expedition MAX with the towing package will have a peak capacity of 9,000 pounds. Without the package, the rear-wheel drive maxes out at 6,300 pounds, and the four-wheel drive at 6,000 pounds.
Interior
Sporty has an extended wheelbase. The game's name for the Expedition MAX is space. The base model for the MAX is the XLT, and it offers seating for up to eight people in a three-row design. Higher trims in the class offer more elbow room and will seat up to seven. You also get 34.3 cubic feet of rear cargo space, a significant improvement over the more people-focused non-MAX model of the Expedition. By folding down the back two seating rows, Expedition MAX owners can push the cargo room to 121.5 cubic feet. A power liftgate is standard for all consumer trims.
Like all full-size Ford vehicles, the Expedition MAX has impressive luxury features. Your top seating options include leather and Del Rio leather. Ziricote wood trim is also available for the King Ranch version. Ford also offers contrasting color schemes that will wow people who travel with you. Massaging front seats with power adjustability and lumbar support are even available.
Exterior
A classy and clean design defines the Expedition MAX. It features a wave-style grille that's available in blackout or chrome. The wide and large headlamps integrate at the sides of the grille. The MAX's deep lower corner coves look particularly sporty and fetching on SUVs with lighter body colors. The Expedition Max includes a heavy front bumper with recessed tow hooks.
Ford prefers a similarly clean and stylish profile. The higher trims have chrome accents below the windows and along the lower panels. You also can order the MAX with wheels as big as 22 inches.
Safety
The manufacturer loads the Expedition MAX with desirable safety systems like rear parking sensors, dual-stage airbags, and a rearview camera. Ford's Safety Canopy system distributes accident energies away from occupants, and the system extends to the third seating row. Forward-collision warnings and automatic emergency braking come standard. You can order adaptive cruise control. Active parking assistance is also available. The NHTSA also gives the Ford Expedition MAX a five-star rating for safety.
Technology
A twelve-inch infotainment screen with a vertical orientation is the standard display option for the Expedition MAX. You also can upgrade to a 15.5-inch option. Ford offers a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, too. Your top stereo option is a 22-speaker B&O Unleashed audio package. A keyless entry system with a secure keycode is also available.
